This month we explore the realm of polarity as we celebrate Gemini the sign of the twins which presides over all duality beginning with the dual nature of the mind. Gemini is the first sign of the zodiac ruled by Mercury the planet of thought, speech and all communication. In fact the twins are primarily a symbol for the two lobes of the brain which are associated with the two modes of consciousness, which are consciousness and subconsciousness. The left side of the brain governs the right side of the body and is associated with logic, mathematics and rational ways of knowing. The right side of the brain governs the left or feminine side of the body and governs creativity, intuition and non rational ways of knowing.
Western culture which now includes most of the globe has been obsessed with the male twin for low these past two thousand years and the resulting disastrous mess tells us all we need to know about the fruitfulness of the lopsided approach to intelligence. While there have been great scientific advances, they have come at the exorbitant price of species extinction, deforestation, genocide, global warming and the list goes on and on.
The problem is two fold. First we have undervalued all things feminine. This began when God was turned into a male mono gendered entity, identified with the mind and divorced from creation. This strange distortion has allowed the western world including the scientific world to conduct itself in the most unnatural ways. We have viewed the natural world as a sterile resource to be plundered and exploited and have behaved much the same toward women children and all tribal and indigenous people who are archetypally also associated with the feminine side of consciousness.
While the male side of our brains can perform astonishing feats like splitting the atom or building a robot it is the feminine side of the brain that can think outside the box, take huge creative leaps and guide the intuitive morality and wisdom of our choices. The left lobe might say hmmm I wonder what would happen if we took a baby monkey and deprived it of all tactile stimulation and maternal nurturing? { This was an actual test conducted by western psychologists) The right side of the brain if on line would instantly reply: Have you lost all your marbles? Don’t even think about doing such a horrid thing for the sake of science, your Ph.D. or for any other reason. It is the feminine mind the magical mind that is most needed these days.
The other problem with the dual mind is that both sides work best when aligned with the higher consciousness. While here in the West we worship the mind, there is a higher intelligence than our own and we can direct our consciousness upward to it. This is best done through spiritual practices like mindfulness, loving kindness practices and consciously asking our higher selves to direct all our thinking both conscious and subconscious. This results in a higher level of thought and creativity.
Einstein who was by all accounts a pretty smart cookie pointed out the a problem cannot be solved at the level that created the problem. As a matter of much urgency we must evoke that higher consciousness to free ourselves from a myriad of self created problems
Right now we must begin to make the shift to a higher consciousness. Luckily wonderful guides like Eckhardt Tolle have pointed out the simple yet difficult methods by which we can step out of our egoic mind and into a higher level of consciousness and presence.
We also this month have planetary help to assist us in moving out of our heads and the deadening world of abstraction and trivia and into the heart. This month along with the sun’s usual passage through Gemini we are also in the midst of Venus moving retrograde though Gemini asking us to review, and reflect upon all issues of apparent duality. Venus is the Goddess of Love. She is an erotic and unifying principle which joins and unifies all opposites in peace. This month in a world suffering from far too many bogus splits between genders, races, nation and, political parties the dove of the Holy Spirit of Peace reminds us that behind all apparent splits and divisions there is Love and Unity.
On June 5th Venus will pass in front of the Sun, a rare occurrence which won’t happen again for over 100 years. Venus, the planet of love now takes precedence over our egos. That this is happening in the sign of division and duality is a reminder to Let Love Rule our minds, our thoughts our speech. This month let all apparent divisions be healed as we become still, silent, loving and present. In silence and still presence love flies in on the wings of a dove.
Gemini rules, siblings, short journeys, transportation, teachers, writers, journalists, the mind, the lungs, the hands, polarity, yin and yang, all things and their opposites, messengers, couriers, angels, winged things, writing, letters, twins.
This month let your speech and thoughts be loving. Make up with your siblings remembering that all men are brothers, all women sisters. Write peaceful beautiful words. Whatever your biggest divide is, work to heal it. Each day ask your higher self to direct all your thinking. Send blessings to anyone you have conflict with. The Sun went into Gemini on May 20th, which coincided with the new moon at zero degrees of Gemini, accompanied by a solar eclipse. This began a whole new cycle of for Gemini in which the moon, the planet associated with the subconscious took precedence over the sun, the more yang luminary. The theme of this entire Gemini cycle seems to be the feminine emerging to restore balance in our overly male, mental, busy, frenetic world.
- The solar eclipse brings lunar, maternal focus to the forefront of our consciousness. The moon rules the subconscious and is the uniting consciousness connecting us all on the universal world wide web. She encourages us to feel and know the real connections between all life forms. Issues and people from the past may return to be resolved. On June 4th at 7:12 AM EST the full moon will occur in Sagittarius accompanied by a lunar eclipse bringing our focus back to what our conscious philosophy will be after the deep reflection of the New Moon.
- This issue is echoed by Venus’s retrograde in Gemini. Venus, the Goddess of beauty and love went retrograde on May 15th and will go direct on June 27th asking us to reflect upon all things Gemini: our thoughts, our speech, our relationships to both sides of our nature. Gemini becomes very Libra like with Venus passing through asking us to establish, beauty, balance and justice to all our relationships.
- On June 19th there is the New Moon in Gemini again at the very late degree of 28 degrees. The last New Moon was at zero degrees Gemini. It is as though we are being asked to take an entirely different approach to all matters of duality and the mind. Heal all splits as we enter the new solar tide of the summer solstice the day after the New moon and invite the Great Oceanic Mother back into our lives. This solstice marks the return of the Goddess to a more central place in our lives.
- The summer solstice takes place on June 20th at 7:09 PM The Great tide changes and we begin to lose minuets of daylight till the winter solstice when the tide changes again and daylight returns. This solstice commit to a new reverence for the ocean, the planet, your own beautiful and sacred body, your feelings, your heart and the invisible web that unites all life forms here and throughout all worlds and galaxies.
Venus transits in front of the Sun on June 5th. This will not happen again till 2117. This marks a time when the Goddess of beauty, balance and connection takes precedence over the Sun, the planet of self and ego. The return of this Goddess to a place of primacy in our lives marks a return to the feminine consciousness of interrelationship, superseding the increasing fragmentation of the western world. All this is happening in Gemini, the sign that splits and divides. This marks a time when opposites can unite and all apparent divisions can be healed, which is to say made whole.
Mercury the ruler of Gemini begins the month of June in Gemini giving our minds the legendary quicksilver speed associated with this sign. On June 7th things slow way down as mercury enters Cancer the great oceanic mother and our thinking becomes more insular and protective. On the 25th Mercury enters flamboyant Leo and our minds move toward creativity and self expression.
Mars remains in Virgo all month continuing its epic cleaning and organizing mission. Mars in Virgo also gets us into the garden and encourages organic approaches to food and cleaning. Jupiter finishes up it’s stint in Taurus and on June 11th moves into Gemini where it brings philosophical and mental expansion to the realm of the mind and to all Gemini natives. Jupiter will remain in Gemini for the rest of the year and beyond.
Saturn still retrograde in Libra is asking us to review unresolved Justice and relationship issues. Saturn goes direct on June 25th and we can act on what has surfaced in our relationships. Uranus in Aries continues to revolutionize the world awakening each person to their human rights..
Neptune in Pisces goes retrograde on June 4th encouraging inward vision quests all summer and in fact till November when it goes direct. During this aspect we can each reflect on how to dream up a better world.
Pluto in Capricorn, also retrograde gets us reflecting on issues of banking, corporations and governments. We may see some countries opt out of the Euro in the coming weeks and months as the global focus continues to be on economies, banking and currencies.
ARIES: This month begins with the Sun, Mercury and Venus all in your house of communication in the sign Gemini. Normally this would give you a ton twitchy nervous mental energy, but Venus’s retrograde and her transit in front of the Sun on June 5th fill you instead with gracious mental poise and reflection.
